What a night for the Pearland kids before they head to the Little League World Series.
The Pearland Little Leaguers, who are headed to the Little League World Series, meet Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman during batting practice before the start of an MLB game at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022 in Houston.When Jim"Mattress Mack" McIngvale tries to carry on a conversation while walking through a crowded Minute Maid Park concourse, he does his best to focus on the topic at hand while also interrupting himself to acknowledge those who recognize him.
It's a seemingly never-ending mix of Mack-isms of"Good to see you" and"Go Astros." On Wednesday night, with a group of Pearland Little Leaguers with him in the top of the second inning, there also was McIngvale looking around and asking,"Hey, do you know where the ice cream is?", the Pearland players, coaches and their families were guests of McIngvale at the Astros-Rangers game.
"They're having a great time," McIngvale said in a phone call, while also searching for the ice cream stand."We have all the ballplayers here, and they're great kids. They've been very successful on the field just like the Astros, so they certainly earned the right to be taken to a ballgame like this tonight."
McIngvale also joined with H-E-B in donating $20,000 each to Pearland Little League, which will help with all the travel the team has had to do this summer, including next week's trip to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa. "I love baseball, and all of Houston loves baseball," McIngvale said."Whatever we can do to support these young men, we're going to do, and we're going to be pulling for them just like we pull for the Astros."
