In a past interview, Doris said some of the employees were earning $14 an hour. She didn’t indicate what kind of wage increase AGVA might ask for but said the union plans to negotiate a fair collective bargaining agreement that ensures wages are “commensurate with skills,” while also improving safety measures at the castle.Attorney Brandon Shemtob, who represents Medieval Times, declined to comment on Thursday’s vote.
But some later sought to be removed from the bargaining unit, citing reports of deceptive tactics on AGVA’s part to get union cards signed. They also claimed the union’s constitution and bylaws were not clearly stated. Other employees who opposed joining AGVA said they wanted to evaluate the impact of the guild’s victory earlier this year at Medieval Times’ Lyndhurst, N.J. location before moving forward with unionizing.
