Quirarte and Kliegman first met in the mid-2000s, back when Kliegman, then 23, was throwing parties for his downtown friends and became introduced to Quirarte, then 30, who worked at Earnest Sewn at the time and needed a place for the denim brand’s after-party: “So we met and Carlos did the party, and I said, ‘Wow, your crowd’s cool,’ and he’s like, ‘crowd seems kind of cool,’ so we started to do parties together,” Kliegman explains.
Last fall, the trio officially teamed up under Authentic Hospitality, adding the Freehand hotel’s Georgia Room and Bar Calico to their banner of properties, and conjoined their shared ethos: one part archivist’s appreciation for New York history , two parts big-name partnerships with celeb friends , all with a romantic’s eye for the cinematic stirred in.
