Digital Trends speaks to Withings about the new ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Light, the innovations inside, and the path to FDA approval for the smartwatches.
Withings is the unsung hero of the health-focused smartwatch world, with its gorgeous, hybrid, and truly watch-like Withings ScanWatch often flying under the radar of those beguiled by the digital Apple Watch Series 8 or Samsung Galaxy Watch 6. Now, Withings has introduced the next-generation ScanWatch 2, along with a tempting, reasonably priced new model called the ScanWatch Light.
There’s a choice of colors and designs. The 42mm version comes in a silver/black combination, with a silver/white version to follow, and has integrated lugs and a more noticeable, flatter bezel. The 38mm version has a bar-style lug design and comes in silver/white, silver/black, and rose gold/sand, with a rose gold/blue model to come in the future. The strap is made from fluoroelastomer and has a stainless steel buckle.
The TempTech24/7 sensor has been developed by Withings and a Swiss technology company named GreenTEG. Menanteau continued to explain why it’s a big deal: Behind the new and updated sensors is a new piece of software, ready to interpret the signals on your wrist.

The new Apple Watches might feature 3D-printed parts.A new Bloomberg report says Apple is tinkering with 3D printing for the stainless steel version of the Apple Watch Series 9. The main goal is to purportedly streamline production, and if things go well, Apple may consider using 3D printing for its other products. The report claims that Apple’s been secretly developing this tech for three years, but it’s not a given that the first Series 9 shipments will actually feature the tech. Earlier in June, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted that some of the Ultra 2’s titanium parts would also be manufactured via 3D printing. (Bloomberg says this won’t happen until 2024, however.) Ultimately this would be a small number of Apple Watches sold. Most people opt for the less expensive aluminum models, with stainless steel making up roughly 10 percent of total units.
