On a recent cold, rainy afternoon family and colleagues of the late Debbi Reynolds, former director of client services at The Caring Place, gathered to dedicate a garden in her honor. Tributes to her

quiet strength poured through the gloom. “It’s only fitting that we hold this dedication during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” said Denise Koebcke, president and CEO of The Caring Place, a 24-hour domestic violence emergency crisis shelter and community outreach in Porter County where Reynolds worked for 18 years, until her unexpected death from a heart attack four years ago. Reynolds’ husband, former Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds Sr.

” The garden is comprised of a gazebo surrounded by patios and paths planted with bright flowers and nodding grasses, anchored by evergreens. A commissioned watercolor of the garden by artist Mark Zimmerman will be presented to David Reynolds Sr., upon completion, and three prints given to Debbi and David’s three grown children. A plaque with the words of Audrey Hepburn, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” graces one of the gazebo posts.
