The Mets received rare first-inning productivity Sunday with three runs, but Daniel Vogelbach’s sloppiness on the bases destroyed their chances of further denting the Rockies.
“I wasn’t trying to make an out on the bases, especially when you have got a guy on the ropes like that,” Vogelbach said after theat Citi Field. “I regretted it all game. I watched it over and over again. Just kind of a freak [play].” “Kris made kind of a heads-up play,” Vogelbach said. “I barely came off the bag and by the time I looked up I couldn’t get back. … I want to win more than anybody and that is just a play, I messed up. We were having good at-bats, we had a guy on the ropes and you look back and if I don’t make that play who knows where the game goes.”Daniel VogelbachStarling Marte was on the bench for a day off as he battles a .174/.208/.174 stretch to begin the month.
Carlos Carrasco, who has been battling sickness, threw before the game, but has not been scheduled yet for a minor league rehab start in his return from right elbow swelling caused by a bone chip. Showalter indicated the delay in getting Carrasco into a minor league game could mean he will need two starts before rejoining the club.
