fans, and I’m trying to grasp whether any of them feel the way Parsons did last Sunday. After initially explaining how much he admired Johnson, Parsons went on to say he was pulling for Philly to win the Super Bowl for the division.
Now perhaps Parsons is thinking “win a Super Bowl and watch your roster disappear in free agency” or something like that. Or maybe he wanted to be able to say Dallas beat the Super Bowl champs . But it didn’t read as cynical, and it didn’t seem self-serving. It sounded as if the best player on the Cowboys — and someone destined to be one of the greatest Cowboys of all time, really — wants the Eagles to beat the Chiefs for some sense of division pride.
Are any other devoted Cowboys fans thinking in those terms? Maybe, just maybe there is one exception in baseball. A Rangers fan of my approximate age could have become an Astros fan as a kid in the ‘60s or early ‘70s before the Washington Senators arrived in Arlington. So I can see a few of those folks putting aside the slight stain on the Astros’ first World Series titlethis second time around. But even that’s not a case of AL West division pride. It’s simply demonstrating an old allegiance.
