Democratic hopeful Michael Bloomberg said he believes the U.S. needs 'more immigrants,' not less, but if the U.S. wants to strengthen security, a border wall is not the best way.

Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg hit out at President Donald Trump's efforts to build a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico in an interview this past week, saying if the U.S. really wants to tighten immigration security it should build walls around"local airports," not along the southern border.while campaigning in San Diego County, the former New York mayor said that while he supports welcoming immigrants into the U.S.

Asked what his plan on border security would be, Bloomberg made clear that building a wall across the U.S.-Mexico border would not be part of it. So, if the U.S. is going to build a wall, Bloomberg said,"your wall should really be around the local airport, rather than along the Rio Grande and through some mountains, which is impractical to build. You'd get small piece built, but never a long piece."NewsweekUltimately, however, Bloomberg has maintained that he is strongly pro-immigrant and in favor of creating pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the U.S.
