Ledbetter told me that the feature on the former first lady’s account was a surprise to him and he’s glad his story was able to make it to one of his “most idolized individuals.” “When I saw the post I was amazed and in awe,” the 17-year-old student told me. “To know that one of the most influential first ladies has shared my story was extraordinary. But a couple of weeks before, former president Barack Obama had shared the story, so it was great to know that I had made impressions on two of my most idolized individuals.”
“National voter registration day is very important to me because it is a day that highlights the voices of the American people,” Ledbetter told me. “It is the duty for the people of America to voice their opinion in order to take action on the issues that they believe they are facing. The start of making a change begins with uplifting what you support and if you hinder that, you begin to lose your purpose as well as your authority as an American.
