The governors of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin urged 2020 Democrats to seek consensus —and to visit their states

The class of Democratic governors that swept to victory in three key Midwestern states have some advice for Democratic presidential candidates: Keep it simple. Don’t overpromise.Democratic Govs. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania, and Tony Evers of Wisconsin aren't known for fiery rhetoric.

“What any candidate should do in any race, frankly, is to show up,” Whitmer said. “There's no special, secret sauce there. It's about having real conversations with real people and when you do that you stay tethered to the things that matter. And that's what people want.”Sign Up Wolf, who coasted to a second term in Pennsylvania, said Democrats need to make that face-to-face pitch to rebuild trust in their party.

"People voted in '16 to blow it up," Wolf continued. "And it's up to either party to come back in 2020 with candidates who can convince voters that they can put it back together."
