The meaning behind the colors, Zords, and characters in Power Rangers is a strong way to create character archetypes and development in the franchise.
While it might seem as though the Zords in the original Power Rangers were chosen at random, their true meaning is deeply related to the Ranger who wields them. Out of the many superhero shows around, the Power Rangers, and those inspired by them, are unique in that they are both synchronous yet individualized in very particular areas, including their assigned color, the weapons they wield, and the Zords they command.
4 Zack And The Mastodon Dinozord After Jason, Zordon granted Zack the role of the Black Ranger, declaring him as “clever and brave.” The similarities between Jason's and Zack’s epithets make Zack uniquely suited to be Jason’s second in command, a role that the Black Ranger often inhabits on Power Rangers.
Kimberly’s Pterodactyl Zord further displays her role as the glue of the Power Rangers, especially because her Zord is the only one who can fly. Because Kimberly’s Pterodactyl robot is not largely weighed down with weaponry, her ability to take to the skies grants the Rangers a view of the big picture in battles and also allows her to keep watch on her friends from above, much like how Kimberly cares for them outside of Ranger business.
