"Slide Away" is all about moving on from a relationship and letting go, even though it hurts. Even the single artwork is telling; a broken bottle of whiskey and pills are shown floating in a pool. “Once upon a time it was paradise / once upon a time I was paralyzed/ think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights /b ut it’s time to let it go,” Miley sings.
The song continues with Miley saying she doesn’t give up easily but doesn’t think she’s “down” to continue the relationship. While she hasn’t confirmed that “Slide Away” is about Liam, a few lyrics of the song aretelling hints. “Why don’t you slide away back to the ocean / I’ll go back to the city life,” she sings, recallingabout Liam, “Malibu.” The real kicker?
