A bipartisan effort to repeal the so-called 'military widow's tax' appears to be headed for success after it was included as a provision of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.

More than 65,000 surviving spouses of people who died in military service could soon be set to receive full survivor's benefits, after a bipartisan effort to do away with the so-called"widow's tax."

Sen. Doug Jones and Sen. Susan Collins spearheaded the provision, which a number of surviving military spouses have been trying to pass for decades. The NDAA passed Wednesday by a vote of 377-48 in the House. It is also expected to pass in the Senate next week, where it has close to 80 co-sponsors.
