Goods cannot be imported into Europe with the name"Champagne" if they are not produced in the Champagne region. The European Union has a system of protected geographical designations that was created to guarantee the true origin and quality of artisanal food, wine and spirits, and to protect them from imitation.

Miller High Life, Miller’s oldest brand, was launched as its flagship in 1903. According to its website, the company started to use the “Champagne of beers” nickname three years later. The brand owner said Friday it “respects local restrictions” around the word Champagne.
