“That’s been a big emphasis that we’ve had this year: what can we do different that’s still going to help us improve, so that way we don’t try and stay on the same path,” Brown said. “If you keep doing the same thing, everybody knows what you’re going to do. We’ve been trying to see what tweaks we can make to better us and make us different so that it’s not just the same team winning. It’s a new team with a lot of the same girls.
“You don’t have a lot of time to reset and move on to the next at-bat or pitch,” Lake Creek senior catcher Kalee Rochinski said. “So, we’ll watch videos of speakers and coaches that do mental training. We think it will really pay off when it gets to later in the season, when the stakes are higher. Brown, a University of Florida signee, is one of the top players in the nation. She went 30-0 with a 0.46 ERA and 335 strikeouts to 23 walks in the circle last season and hit .406 with 43 RBIs and 10 homers at the plate.Rochinski and senior infielder Shelby Winn are the Lions’ two other NCAA DI signees, courtesy of UTSA and Central Arkansas, respectively.
Junior outfielder Carmen Uribe , a Central Arkansas commit, was a revelation at the plate and on the basepaths as a sophomore last year.With the graduation of infielders Madelyn Lopez and Caelee Clark, Lake Creek will have new faces at first, second and third bases.
