Luis Campusano is on his way back. Finally.
Sidelined since mid-April with a left thumb injury that required surgery, the 24-year-old catcher began his rehab assignment on Tuesday in the rookie level Arizona Complex League, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored as the designated hitter in aCampusano was hitting .238/.227/.429 with one home run when the injury sidelined him just as he was ready to grab a larger share of the playing time.is hitting .143/.260/.
It remains to be seen what the playing breakdown will be once Campusano returns to the fold, but that’s not exactly in the offing. He’ll have to test his catching hand in rookie ball before moving his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso to work on his timing against more advanced pitching. allowed three runs – two earned – on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning in his second rehab appearance. He’s expected to move to El Paso on Friday.
