The Padres’ second-round pick last year out of Iowa, Mazur started the year with 47 strikeouts in 58 innings in high Single-A Fort Wayne’s rotation. The 22-year-old allowed five runs in his 3 2/3 innings in San Antonio’s bullpen, but he struck out two in a scoreless frame in Frisco on Sunday and is scheduled to pitch in relief again on Thursday.
Likewise, Iriarte’s velocity has ticked up from 95.4 mph in Fort Wayne to 97 mph in San Antonio’s bullpen. He struck out a batter in a scoreless frame on Thursday and is up to eight strikeouts over six shutout innings since his promotion to the Texas League. He has allowed one hit and one walk.
