The party had been around 11,500 feet elevation in Dreamweaver Couloir, a narrow gully leading to the 13,916-foot summit.
Rescue crews initially found a man with severe injuries and a woman with minor injuries. A National Guard helicopter was called to hoist the injured man during a brief break in the wintry weather around 2 p.m. He was taken to a hospital in Loveland. The woman was flown out around 4:15 p.m.
At about 5:15 p.m., searchers probing avalanche debris and using radar technology found the body of the third climber. Because of the bad weather, the recovery operation was delayed, park officials said. Meeker, just southeast of Longs Peak, is a prominent feature in Colorado’s Front Range. During the summer, the summit can be reached by hiking with some rock scrambling. Dreamweaver, a popular spring snow route for mountaineers, requires technical gear and expertise.
