MLB held its amateur draft this week, and the results sent a resounding message to kids around the country: If you want to play in the Show, stay in school

Two decades ago, about 40% of the players selected in the first 40 rounds came directly from high school, the norm for much of the 1990s.

Of the 1,217 players taken this season, only about 24% of draftees jumped straight from high school, the seventh consecutive year with a decrease in that category.
