Environmental organizations, though, criticized the program and the Biden Administration for what they have said is a broken 2020 campaign pledge to cease oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. The Alabama total goes completely to Mobile and Baldwin counties, and state law adopted last year prevents it from being diverted to other regions of the state.
The announcement also comes on the same day that the U.S. House passed the GOP-led Lower Energy Costs Act that, among other things, increases the share of oil and gas revenues from 37.5% to 50%.
