A mother stopped a man from kidnapping her son at a North Richland Hills school event this week, police said Friday.
North Richland Hills police said 31-year-old Kevin Darcell Ward Jr. is accused of trying to abduct the child during “meet the teacher night” at the International Leadership of Texas charter school on Tuesday. Ward is being held at the Tarrant County Jail on a charge of unlawful restraint, with bail set at $150,000, police said. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
Police said the mother noticed Ward, who was not accompanying a child, walking the halls of the school. Ward put his arm around the child and tried to usher the boy away from his mother, police said. She pulled the boy back and alerted school officials, who contacted police.“The North Richland Hills Police Department thanks the parent for their quick-thinking action and wants to remind everyone how important it is to report suspicious behavior to the police,” the department said in a written statement.
