Montgomery County has secured $23.7 million in state funding for a permanent active shooter training facility that soon will be mandatory training for all police, fire and emergency medical personnel.at the former Keefer Crossing Middle School in New Caney, leasing the property for $23,000 a month.
Jason Millsaps, executive director of the county’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said the funding will cover the operations, the addition of dorms and staff to offer the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training developed by Texas State University.Meet Conroe ISD's newest principals, headmaster at its elementary schools, science and technology academy
Millsaps said the facility will be county-owned and will be staffed with six personnel through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and five through the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Officials say the facility will provide a hands-on training site aimed at helping prevent an event such as the May 24 Uvalde school shooting in which an 18-year-old walked into Robb Elementary with an AR-15-style weapon and began firing, killing 19 children and two teachers.
