More high winds forecast for Friday and Saturday across Southern California
Another round of gusty Santa Ana winds is expected to hit Southern California late Friday, Nov. 18, and into Saturday, again raising concerns about the possibility of rapidly spreading wildfires.
National Weather Service forecasters said the mountains could get hit with northeast winds of 40 to 60 mph, with localized gusts reaching 70 mph in some peaks and canyons. The strongest winds are expected Saturday morning. In other affected areas, winds of 30 to 50 mph are expected, with gusts possible up to 60 mph.
The weather service issued a fire weather watch that will be in effect Saturday from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m., particularly wind-prone locations along coastal mountain slopes and below passes in Orange County and the Inland Empire, and in coastal Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains.
Humidity will drop to 12% to 20%, creating six or more hours of critical fire weather conditions on Saturday, the weather service said. “Residents near wildland interfaces should prepare now on what to do if a wildfire breaks out,” the weather service said.High weekend temperatures are forecast for the low-to-mid 70s in Orange County , low 70s in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County and in the 30s to the 50s in the Southern California mountains.
