San Antonio firefighters saved multiple neighborhoods after a wildland fire broke out on South Side
San Antonio firefighters battled a wildland fire on June 16, 2022, that started in a hay field on the South Side.A wildland fire has burned at least 200 acres in far South Side, San Antonio Fire officials said.
At around 7 p.m., crews were called out to the 10500 block of Roosevelt Avenue, near the SAPD Training Facility, for a brush fire that started in an empty hay field, said San Antonio Fire spokesman Joe Arrington. The field was next to a fuel storage facility that housed jet and diesel fuel. The fire threatened the facilities and nearby homes, but crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to the structures. The fuel facility also had fire suppression technology to help keep the fire from reaching the fuel.RELATEDCrews fought the fire for several hours. During the night, winds let up and humidity set in, helping firefighters suppress the fire.
Firefighters from the city and county departments battled the flames. Crews are expected to remain at the scene until morning to ensure containment.
