As many as 200 people reportedly fell ill after attending events at the hotel on April 2 and April 3, according to reports.
, an inspector found issues with the cleaning and sanitation at the hotel. That included “dirty silverware and mold” in the cooler where vegetables were kept.
The inspectors showed up at the Marriott in Coraopolis after events there on April 2 and April 3 — including a burial shower, a wedding and a football banquet. KDKA reported that the family that had the burial shower said as many as 70 people fell ill, and that another 80 from the wedding, which was held the same day, also reportedly experienced “gastrointestinal illnesses.” KDKA said “several people” who attended the football banquet also experienced the issues.
The Marriott told KDKA that it did a deep cleaning to “cover both the norovirus and coronavirus,” and reports say the Allegheny County Health Department has since passed the Marriott upon re-inspection.
