Treasury to come up with a plan to end over a decade of government control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the companies behind about half of the nation’s mortgages. Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mark Calabria, the regulator who oversees Fannie and Freddie, has said he expects to engage with Treasury on the way the companies will operate in the future once the report is unveiled.
But history and headlines suggest it’s a losing battle: for investors and businesses, the Fed is less of a preoccupation than the trade war for which — for better or worse — Mr. Trump has claimed credit.
