A mother in New York was taken into custody after allowing her 10-year-old son to get a tattoo.

Crystal Thomas, 33, is accused of allowing her child to get a tattoo of his name at a"transient" hotel in Highland, New York, a state where minors are allowed to undergo gender transitions, according to a report.Thomas, who was reportedly staying at the location with her two children, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

She allowed her 10-year-old to receive"a large permanent ink tattoo on his body," according to the Lloyd Police Department.Police are also searching for the artist who gave the minor a tattoo, the report noted. Authorities were made aware of the incident after the young boy went to his school nurse and asked for Vaseline to put on the tattoo, according to the report.

Child Protective Services has since removed the boy from his mother because it is illegal for children under 18 in New York to get tattoos.Thomas's next court appearance is slated for Oct. 20.
