For the month of May, we’re bringing you stories from Asian American leaders in the automotive industry.

from both ourselves and our allies alike. But there's especially powerful forward momentum right now, perhaps more than ever before. For the first time, it feels like we've finally elbowed our way into a permanent seat at the table. We're speaking up, and people are finally listening.

I started these automotive-themed Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month stories as a reaction to the racist hate crimes we've recently suffered at the hands of domestic terrorists, as I've. With so many headlines about such attacks, I want to reinforce the fact that we cannot and will not be merely painted with the broad stroke of"victim." We are creatives, visionaries, leaders, teachers, and students.

It's now year three into the series, but the message remains the same: Asian Americans have always been and continue to be an integral part of the automotive community. Our contributions only strengthen the industry as a whole. If you're Asian American—or a member of any underrepresented group—know you're valued and you have a place here. That hasn't always been the case, but it's imperative to know it is now.

Each week of this month here at MotorTrend, you'll hear from a truly incredible cast of people about how they made it in their respective disciplines, what we can learn from them, and what they're still learning themselves.
