AKRON, Ohio - Akron, Chardon, and Cleveland officials informed residents that tests have shown “no indication” that the air and water have been impacted by the events of the East Palestine train derailments.

The plume from the burn has since dissipated, and all train cars that were previously damaged train cars have been cleared away. The regular testing conducted by Cleveland Water has shown “no indication” that Lake Erie and its watershed has been impacted from the events of the East Palestine train derailment, Cleveland Water stated.The City of Akron, Summit County, and Summit County Public Health shared a joint statement to inform Akron residents that tests have shown “no indication” that the air and water have been impacted by the events of the East Palestine train derailments.

The city of Akron told residents that the risk of contamination from the East Palestine train derailment is “extremely low” because Akron’s source of drinking water is from the upper Cuyahoga River Watershed within the Great Lakes Basin.
