Hooking up with a festive stranger left Charlotte* feeling both naughty and nice...
A year ago I began working in an all-year-round Christmas shop, to earn a bit of extra cash whilst studying at university. I'd recently broken up with my long-term boyfriend and I was feeling pretty low
- and, actually, all the tinsel, festive cheer and seasonal tunes really didn't help. Most of our customers were tourists coming in for tartan baubles or ones with their names written on. Either that or the Christmas obsessives, who began planning their"looks" around August. Certainly no one remotely fanciable. But then, one morning, this really cute Australian came in, picking up some bits and bobs for his family.
But then a couple of days later he popped in."Forgot my nieces," he said, before staying and chatting a little. He came in three days on the trot after that, and I was dying for him to ask me out - but our flirting could only remain pretty tame: my colleague, an elderly lady who'd worked there for years was always close by, earwigging .
About a week after he first came in my colleague called in sick. Leaving me to run the shop alone. It was a quiet day and I spent most of it dusting, willing for him to come in. Around 4pm I was up on a stool, getting the top shelf ornaments, when I heard the door go. It was him. I turned around and we instantly locked eyes, the look on his face suggested he knew what I was thinking.
We began to kiss in the darkness, his hands running all over my body, the scent of cinnamon in the air. He pushed up my pencil skirt, tugging down my tights, and kissed up and down my legs before reaching the spot, flicking it with his tongue. As I neared climax, he stopped, flipped me round and bent me over a pile of cardboard boxes that I knew contained incredibly fragile Christmas baubles. He entered me from behind, continuing to massage my clitoris at the same time, until I began to orgasm.

Huang Fei Hong Spicy Cold Peanut Noodles Recipe on Food52Think Pringles . . . Doritos . . . the most iconic American savory snacks that everyone grew up with. This thing called Huang Fei Hong—fried peanuts seasoned with chilies and Sichuan peppercorns—is the cultural equivalent in China (Editors' note: If you can't find these where you live, they're widely available online). It’s everywhere, eaten by everyone, spicy, numbing, salty, and unstoppable, the perfect beer food. But very few people realize the true potential of this humble snack that they pop aimlessly into their mouths without a second thought, and that is, when pureed into a thick and velvety sauce, it can be used for the best, most life-changing spicy cold peanut noodle dish you’ve ever tasted. If you tend to go senseless in the presence of cold peanut noodles, don’t make this. A note on My Ultimate Chile Oil: I once thought about bottling this stuff and selling it as my ticket to an early retirement in a grand château in the French countryside. It is that good. During my chile oil–sodden years in New York, Beijing, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, swimming through countless commercial brands and the versions offered in restaurants, I could always find legitimate reasons that this recipe is comparably more versatile and better tasting. And that’s saying a lot. Excerpted with permission from William Morrow Cookbooks from The Art of Escapism Cooking by Mandy Lee, 2019.
