Rep. Mikie Sherrill will serve a third term in the U.S. House.

The Associated Press called the race in the state’s“When I look out on all of you here, we are always going to have enough people to hold and protect our democracy,” an overjoyed Sherrill told a cheering crowd of supporters in Montclair. “New Jersey is going to lead that fight to hold and protect our democracy.”

Sherrill had flipped a Republican-held district in 2018 and was considered a strong favorite as her district became moreafter the state’s independent redistricting commission redrew the 11th Congressional District lines. Still, Sherrill was concerned enough to spend $500,000 a week on advertising during the first three weeks of October, according to the most recent Federal Election Commission filings.

Add your email below and hit"subscribe"State Republican Party Chairman Bob Hugin called Sherrill a “great candidate” but “a piece of s**t congresswoman” during a speech in Garwood on Tuesday night.“The Republicans are the future of our state and the future of our country,” he added. “We have let the Democrats take over this state and country, and that ends tonight.

He said he was just trying to “rev up the crowd.” DeGroot was also in the crowd and addressed the well-wishers.
