Maureen LePiane, whose daughter attends South Mountain Elementary School, said she was “truly disappointed” by the policy. She said she wished the district had explored alternatives to a ban, such as a Cultural Awareness Day or a time for students to dress up as their favorite book character or historical figure.“Some applauded the decision,” he said. “Others did not.
Some sects of Christians, Muslims, and Orthodox Jews do not recognize Halloween, school officials said. Some families found it difficult to leave work to help children get into their costumes and watch them parade. And some families had trouble affording costumes.
