A state law enacted in 2016 requires the tax rate be adjusted each October.
New Jersey’s gas tax will drop one penny to 41.4 cents per gallon beginning Oct. 1 after tax collections came in higher than expected last year, the state Treasury announced Monday.This marks the second consecutive year the tax is being reduced after falling 8.3 cents last year as demand for motor fuels rebounded from a pandemic slump.
