“We Shall Overcome,” a song with many iterations since it was first heard in 1901, is widely believed to be the anthem of the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s.by a South Jersey university professor will explain the importance of that hymn and other “songs of praise and protest” in the Civil Rights Movement, as well as their relevance today.
