The decision drew significant ire from the community and local elected officials, and has been brought up at three contentious Board of Education meetings, including two after the calendar for the 2022-2023 school year was already approved. “Why after 30 years did you ask the public—current school parents only—to remove the second day of Rosh Hashanah from the calendar and include this on the survey? Why would you ask this question knowing Jews are in the minority, and thus their input would automatically be overruled?” a Catholic resident of the township said.

Students who take off on the second day of the holiday will receive an excused absence. The New Jersey Department of Education keeps a“To those advocating for change on a calendar we already voted on, we have to agree to disagree on what is in the best interest for the school community,” Board member Tammy Mackay, who voted against revising, the calendar, said.
