Sylvia Goldsholl died Wednesday at a senior living community in Bergen County.
Goldsholl passed away peacefully at the Allendale Community for Senior Living, in Allendale, shortly before a celebration in her honor by the center and town’s mayor,“She was an in-house celebrity, a ‘big sister’ to many and a vocal advocate for others,” David Gillies, director of activities at the facility told. “An independent spirit who loved music, dancing and celebrating life with others.”
Last year, Gov. Phil Murphy was among those celebrating her feat of beating a case of coronovarius, adding to her list of lifetime accomplishments: surviving the Spanish Flu of 1918 to 1920, the Great Depression, and living through both World Wars and countless other historical events. “A tremendous life, a tremendous spirit, a tremendous show of strength, a tremendous role model for the rest of us,” Murphy said during a daily press briefing in May 2021 after Goldsholl recovered from a case of the virus in April 2021.
