A New York man was sentenced on Friday to 1-1/2 years in prison for attacking a court security officer in an elevator and two others who responded to the scene after he was prevented from seeing a federal judge whom he had threatened to detain.

Robert Wilson, 64, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Eric Vitaliano in Central Islip a year to the day after theat the courthouse, during which all three court security officers sustained injuries, prosecutors said.

Wilson, without a lawyer, had been pursuing a federal lawsuit before U.S. District Judge Gary Brown in Central Islip.said that Wilson, who had a "history of violent outbursts toward law enforcement and other public servants," on Aug. 10, 2022, entered the courthouse to file documents in his case. When Wilson returned the next day, he asked court security officers where to find the "treasonous" judge's office, prosecutors said. Officers told him he was not allowed to see the judge at that time, and he went to an elevator.
