Naperville Fire Department's Wellness and Fitness Committee launched a yoga class for firefighters and EMT/paramedics for both mental and physical fitness, and participants say it's harder than it looks.
In other words, it was a success.
Many of these folks are in shape but that doesn’t mean they don’t get a strenuous workout courtesy of Naperville’s Emily Martinez. “The comment you hear from the yoga program is that it’s amazing how much you sweat while never moving. You are in the same spot for an hour.”“Mobility, flexibility, peace of mind are all probably the key components,” Erwin said. “Along with that is the strengthening of the core assets of the body.”
Montague is serious about making his peers take their mental and physical health seriously. While it doesn’t appear to be a problem in Naperville, firefighter and paramedic deaths across the country are rising and Montague is troubled by some of the studies he has seen.
