The Film That Lit My Fuse is a Deadline video series that aims to provide an antidote to headlines about industry uncertainty by swinging the conversation back to the creative ambitions, formative influences and inspirations of some of today’s great screen artists. Every installment asks the same five questions.

Today’s subject is Scoot McNairy, whose two movies, Lyle Lyle Crocodile in theatres, and Luckiest Girl Alive on Netflix, debut this week. This after the Andrew Dominik-directed Marilyn Monroe film Blonde opened this weekend. McNairy came to Hollywood by way of Texas, and he has become a stalwart of indie films, limited series and that include Best Picture winners Argo and 12 Years A Slave, Killing Them Softly, Promised Land, Frank, Non-Stop, and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. His TV turns include Halt and Catch Fire, Narcos: Mexico, Godless, Fargo and True Detective. Here’s how he found his mojo.
