The Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 index rose during US trading on Tuesday while the Dow Jones Industrial fell by 100 points.
Major US indexes were mixed as gains in chipmakers drove the Nasdaq to an all-time high and disappointing earnings pulled down the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Texas Instruments reported strong earnings for the second quarter on Tuesday, and indicated to investors the slowdown in demand stemming from the trade war might not last as long as anticipated. Caterpillar, which is one of the 30 companies in the Dow, sank by 5% as its second-quarter earnings report signaled slowing growth in China.
