The 'Power' star and singer talks about the career she almost pursued, and going back to her first love—singing.
Share to twitterIt’s not unusual to have a back-up plan. As kids, we all had lofty goals and aspirations of what we wanted to do when we grow up. But, once the realities of life start rolling in or your dreams change, the back-up plan pivots between being a safety net or a push in the right direction.
For Naturi Naughton, her back-up plan was to become a lawyer, lucky for her - and us - she didn’t need it. “I’m the first in my family to actually pursue and succeed in a career in music, television, and film. I went to Seton Hall University, was a straight-A student, and I actually thought about being a lawyer if my whole singing - acting thing didn’t work out,” Naughton said jokingly. Ready to pursue this career in law, Naughton continues on that she was even on the debate team.
Although Naughton is not pursuing a career in the court of law, she’s using her power and platform to argue for social equity; she’s challenging the definition of the word “Black” with My Black is Beautiful’s latest campaign
