Chris Hemsworth's new movie Extraction 2, which debuts tomorrow, nabs a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than last year's Thor: Love and Thunder.
Chris Hemsworth's Extraction 2 has nabbed a Rotten Tomatoes score that blows his previous Marvel entry out of the water. Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a series of four solo movies in addition to various Avengers team-ups. Although his most recent outing, 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, was the highest-grossing Thor entry at the worldwide box office, it received the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of them all with 63 percent.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Tomorrow, Netflix launches the sequel to Hemsworth's 2020 action-thriller Extraction. Reviews for the Extraction sequel dropped earlier today so it has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 83 percent at the time of writing.
Could Extraction Become Chris Hemsworth's First Proper Non-Marvel Franchise? Although Hemsworth is one of the original Avengers who is still part of the modern incarnation of the MCU, he has tried his hand at joining various franchises over the past decade. Generally, these titles failed to kick off a major franchise or, if they did earn follow-up movies, continued forward without Hemsworth's involvement.
It still remains to be seen, but Extraction 2 could be the project to turn this trend around for Hemsworth. It does face the challenge of proving it can recapture the audience that Extraction originally gained due to COVID-19 stay-at-home measures and a lack of new blockbuster content in 2020. However, if the viewership increases in proportion with the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score increase, Netflix will almost definitely give the greenlight to a possible Extraction 3.
This would only make sense, considering the fact that the first movie became Netflix's biggest original movie in history at the time it debuted. Should Extraction 2 prolong the franchise even further, it will be a huge boon for the star. While the Thor movies have been lucrative, the latest movie's Rotten Tomatoes score may indicate diminishing returns are on the way, so an Extraction franchise could give Hemsworth a very good place to land once he's out of the MCU.
