Report says ‘deputy gangs’ still thrive in L.A. Sheriff’s Department despite denials by ex-Sheriff Alex Villanueva.

A new civilian oversight commission’s report released on Friday, March 3 says at least a half-dozen deputy gangs are still operating inside the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and calls on newly-elected Sheriff Robert Luna to eliminate them.

The report named several gangs, including the Executioners, the Banditos, the Regulators, the Spartans, the Gladiators, the Cowboys and the Reapers. The member of the Reapers criticized that deputy and asked, “Why did you not shoot her?” and later described it as a “freebie” according to the report. “The Commission therefore should urge the Board of Supervisors to do everything in its power to overhaul the entire Department, its culture, and its footprint, and to stop other County agencies, such as County Counsel and the Medical Examiner Coroner’s Office, from continuing to enable deputy gang violence,” Check the Sheriff said.
