Dannen spent the past eight years at Tulane University, and prior to that was at Northern Iowa University, where he grew up a Seattle Sonics fan, where Downtown Freddie Brown starred.Washington hires Tulane athletic director Troy Dannen to replace Jen Cohen, who left for USC Dannen has served as the Chair of the NCAA Competition Committee and the College Football Oversight Committee, while at Tulane, and it has given him a window into the ever-changing world of collegiate athletics. He told KOMO News he’s already had discussions about how to schedule Olympic sports and there are already ideas being talked about at the executive level.
When asked how that would work, Dannen said “the question is whether do you need to schedule Big 10 Regular Season competitions against other Big Ten institutions and all sports? Could you play a regionalized competition, and then in those sports where you want to play nationally, you play national, in essence. Sports, like golf, and in tennis, have already been playing that way. They don't really play conference competition during the season.
