Fattal: Newbury Park community mourning Katie Meyer with proud memories

Katie Meyer, a goalkeeper on the Stanford women’s soccer team, was found dead by suicide in an on-campus residence Tuesday morning. Meyer, 22,for defending a teammate, according to her parents. Fellow assistant Geoff Raives added: “Everything about her was contagious: her positive attitude, tremendous work rate, and the way she could lighten up the mood with a comment everyone would laugh at. She will be missed by everyone who met her, she made an impact on everyone who knew her.”
Seconds after the victory was secured, the ESPN broadcast captured Meyer sprinting across the field in celebration with her arms out and beaming with joy.“Her unbelievable talent was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me as a coach,” said Tony Cortez, who was the head coach for Newbury Park during Meyer’s time with the Panthers. “She was a once-in-a-lifetime personality, and if you were lucky enough to call her a family member or friend, you know exactly what I mean.
