The first local player off the board in the NFL Draft was Notre Dame defensive end Isaiah Foskey, who starred at De La Salle High.
An edge rusher from Notre Dame by way of De La Salle High, Foskey was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round Friday night, No. 40 overall — the first Bay Area product to be selected.
Foskey, 6-foot-5, 268 pounds, was a first-team All-America selection with 11 sacks and 14 tackles for losses as a fourth-year junior for the Fighting Irish. He also had 11 sacks in 2021 and finished his career with 26 1/2 sacks — the most in school history. The call arrived with Foskey at home with his family in California from New Orleans exec Jeff Ireland, who handed the phone to coach Dennis Allen, with the exchange documented by NewOrleansSaints.com.
