The ONA awards, widely considered the most competitive and prestigious awards for online journalism, are open to news organizations around the world. The ONA for “A pickle in paradise” was the third such prize for NJ Advance Media, from eight nominations, since the awards were launched in 2000.
Stanmyre spent more than four months reporting the story, talking to dozens of Ridgewood residents and sound experts, and learning that disputes over the sound coming from pickleball courts have been percolating for years. The project featured photography by Patti Sapone, video by Andre Malok, and illustrations by Sean McKeown-Young. It was designed by Cassidy Grom and Seth Vincent.
