UPDATE: That NJ crash that left two people dead this morning involved a police chase, prosecutors say. Here's what we know so far.
At least two people were killed in a crash in New Jersey, early Tuesday, that left a car wrapped around a tree in some woods following a police pursuit, prosecutors say.
Essex County prosecutors didn't elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the pursuit in Glen Ridge but a law enforcement source close to the investigation says it came after police received a report of an armed robbery. Whatever the circumstances, the chase ended with a heavily damaged vehicle that appeared flipped on its side in the woods after the 5 a.m. accident near Ridgewood and Bloomfield avenues.
Chopper 4 captured a heavy law enforcement response at the scene. It also spotted about a dozen police cars in a shopping center parking lot about a half-mile from the crash scene in neighboring Montclair, though it's unknown if there's a connection.
