AUSTIN — Freshman forward Dillon Mitchell had heard plenty of Big 12 war stories before arriving at Texas last summer as a heralded five-star recruit with a one-and-done outlook.
And with half of the league currently ranked among the top 25 in the NCAA’s NET rankings — a metric and supposed improvement on the RPI formula — there’s a strong chance at least one Big 12 program is among the last four standing at NRG Stadium come April. What Mitchell is really learning though all this is that “any given night” is a fact of life in the Big 12. Throw out the records and rankings and recent results. Mitchell now has the first-hand experience to know this conference is a cauldron of chaos, and no opponents should ever be taken lightly.That’s why No. 10 Texas isn’t sleeping on Texas Tech, which will limp into the Moody Center Saturday night seeking its first Big 12 win.
