The Aggies need a much quicker start against Appalachian State. Here are five things to watch in A&M's midday matchup.

Quarterback Haynes King and the Texas A&M offense started slowly against Sam Houston. The Aggies can't make that a trend as tougher opponents arrive on the schedule.COLLEGE STATION — No. 6 Texas A&M defeated Sam Houston 31-0 a week ago, but only led the Bearkats 10-0 with a minute to halftime.

On their third possession and late in the first quarter quarterback Haynes King hooked up with Yulkeith Brown on a 66-yard touchdown pass against an overmatched secondary. The Aggies didn’t manage another touchdown against their small-college brethren to the east until less than a minute remained in the first half.2. About that quarterback …

King is A&M’s closest thing to royalty, but he might lose that crown with any more interceptions. He’s thrown five in his first two complete games as a starting quarterback, against Kent State and Sam Houston, no less. King threw two against the Bearkats, and was fortunate to not have at least one more interception. Coach Jimbo Fisher is hopeful with more repetitions and needed experience King becomes less prone to the pick, but right now no one is holding their breath — except eager Appalachian State defenders.
